(Anonymous asked: As a white person, I hope that if I ever say/do something racist, someone will call me out on my bullshit so that I never ever do it again. People who don’t get this blog, calm down and get over yourself.
Being racist doesn’t necessarily make you a shitty person. Our society is extremely racist, and it’s hard to not think/say problematic, privileged things.Everyone makes mistakes. Hell, I’ve made mistakes myself.
I will, however, think you’re a terrible person if, instead of apologizing and learning from your mistakes, you instead get upset and yell about how you “didn’t mean it” or try to defend your “right” to say whatever shitty thing you said/do whatever shitty thing you did.
PoC don’t get upset over the things you say because we like to get upset. We get upset over them because racism gets people killed.
The reason why white people can’t say “nigger” isn’t because black people are mean and want the word for themselves; it’s because when white people start calling people niggers, then black people die. Because when white people see us as just niggers, as subhuman, then we die and very few people care. And that’s not okay.
I’m currently talking about black people because I can only speak for my own experiences as a black person, but this happens to other PoC too. Doing racist shit isn’t okay because even small acts of racism contribute to a society in which PoC are seen as subhuman and therefore worthless.
That is why we call you out, white people. That’s why you need to learn to check your privilege, and that is why you need to learn from your mistakes.)
